ALLELUIA, JESUS IS RISEN,
Happy Easter Everyone! God bless you and your loved ones. Easter brings us joy, hope and the promise that we will see our beloved deceased families and friends in heaven. All those who live to know God, to love God, and to serve God, will be with Our Lord for an eternal life in heaven. He created us so that we may have life now and eternally in heaven. Let us today love our God with all our hearts, minds, and souls. The perfect life of heaven with all the angels and saints is waiting for us all. Happy Easter and I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Welcome to April. Have you been fooled by anyone yet? People might fool others for all kinds of reasons, and I am as guilty as anyone for I like to have some fun sometimes in life; however, God will never fool us for any reason. He is always true and is there for us and loves us unconditionally. God is always ready to love and forgive us so that we may know His perfect love for us today and for us to have eternal life. Please plan to attend our penance service on Sunday, April 10th from 4-5pm, in church with guest priests. Next Sunday is Palm Sunday, please take a palm as you enter the church, to be blessed for you to take home. DMI (Disciple Maker Index): Any Catholic, 18 and older, is asked by our Bishop to take this online survey (please take a bulletin home and visit the website to take the survey). It’s an anonymous survey that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. This data will be combined with other parishes in the diocese, to be presented to the Conference of Catholic Bishops in America. Of course, I will get to see this information to help me as the pastor. Thank you for your cooperation! Sympathy and Prayers: Unfortunately, many people have passed to eternal life recently. I have never seen so many deaths in such a short time in all the years I have been a priest. We had Americans, Vietnamese, and Filipino, too, pass away recently. One of our long time, faithful and generous parishioner, Michael Nally, passed away on Tuesday, March 22nd. We celebrated his life and entrusted him to our Lord on Monday, March 28th. Eternal life grant unto him and to all those who recently passed away, including the victims of war in the Ukraine. Heating & Air: The process has been slower than I expected due to many things, including: the long demolition process; the time needed to figure out more concretely how things should work; the laying out of the new transformers; and the best location for the 12 heating units to connect to the current duct work, after the old blower system and pipes are removed. There will be 12 heating units inside and 12 air units outside. Of course, license workers and engineers, and city inspections are part of the work. I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Welcome to Spring. Please enjoy each day God is giving us with your prayer, fasting and alms giving during this Lent. Again, no red meat on Fridays during Lent. Stations of the Cross booklets are available in the back of the church for anyone to use any day and time. If you would like, you can join our school children as they pray the Stations every Friday at 2:30pm in church. Don’t forget to attend our Knights of Columbus fish fry on Friday, April 1st starting at 5pm. Parish penance service will be Sunday, April 10th at 4pm, in church with guest priests. DMI (Disciple Maker Index): The DMI survey will be launched diocesan-wide on April 1st. All Catholics, 18 and older, are asked by our Bishop to take this survey about his/her Catholic way of life in their parish. It’s an anonymous online survey that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. This data will be combined with other parishes in the diocese, to be presented to the conference of Catholic bishops in America. Of course, I will get to see this information to help me as the pastor. More details will be coming. Heating & Air: The process has been slower than I expected due to the long demolition and the time needed to figure out more concretely how things should work and the laying out of the transformer, and where the 12 heating units best sit to connect to the current duct work, after the old blower system and pipes were removed. There will be 12 heating units inside and 12 air units outside and they all will be connected to a special blower system to send the heating or air into the church through the duct works. The duct is underground running along the walls of the church. We are working with what we have, and we are moving along. I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Are you ready for Spring? Yes, the season of Spring is here. The good weather is here too. May we always trust in God and try our best every day to love one another as He taught us. Let us remember the blessings and love God has bestowed upon us, our families, and our country. So sad for Ukraine and its people. They are living in fear, in danger and facing death. Please keep praying the Hail Mary to end the war there and to stop the killing of innocent people throughout the world. Lent: Please remember not to eat red meat on Fridays during Lent. Stations of the Cross booklets are available in the back of the church for anyone to use at any day and time. If you would like, you can join our school children as they pray the Stations every Friday at 2:30pm in church. Confessions are heard before every weekend Mass. Parish penance service will be Sunday, April 10th at 4pm, in church with guest priests. DMI (Disciple Maker Index): The DMI survey will be launched diocesan wide on April 1st. All Catholics, 18 and older, are asked by our Bishop to take this survey about his/her Catholic way of life in their parish. It’s an anonymous online survey that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. This data will be combined with other parishes in the diocese, to be presented to the conference of bishops in America. Of course, I will get to see this information to help me as the pastor. More details will be coming. Heating & Air: The electrical for the old system was disconnected to remove the asbestos pipes and the blower system. It really took a long time to carefully and safely cut the old system into pieces due to its super-size, wall to wall, full of pipes. What is next is to update the electrical panels and the old electrical transformer. This is a major and expensive work. I was told that the electrical transformer has been long overdue for decades. We will need to add a new gas line for the heating. I hope you enjoyed your kids and grandkids as they were on their spring break this past week. They are precious to us. I love you all, Fr. Hien Chaplain: Our parishioner, Vanessa Banh, a former chaplain for Via Christi, would like to volunteer her time for spiritual and emotional support. If you would like support such as prayers, words of encouragement, a compassionate listener, please contact her at 250-9147 Mon—Thurs, 1-5 p.m. All Saints’ Parishioners,
Thank God for this day and all the days of our lives. Please know that as long as we live to love and to serve our Lord, we will never die. Thanks be to God who loves us all eternally and has prepared a special place for us in heaven for our eternal life with Him. Again, Fridays during Lent, please abstain from all meat. During Lent, please do your prayers, fasting and almsgiving for the love of God and for your salvation. 40 days of Lent can help you to be faithful disciples of Jesus and be that “good and faithful” steward for God. Heating and Air Project: Companies are working on different jobs such as shutting down the old system (electrical), removing asbestos pipes and cutting to remove the 12x14 steel blower system. For all these years, the heating and cooling came from the powerhouse, located south of the gym. The pipes are under ground that transport the heating and cooling to the church. This big blower in the church sent hot or cold air into the church. Altar Society: Congratulations to our altar society for being able to resume their ministries, especially serving meals to funeral families. Also, they were able to hold their annual retreat last Saturday. It sounds like they really enjoyed the retreat and the great food. Again, all ladies in the parish are welcome to join their ministry. All of them are still young at heart and fun to be around. Knights of Columbus Fish Fry: this Friday, March 11th in the Fischer Center starting at 5pm, everyone is invited to attend our annual fish fry. I was told that they will serve Vietnamese food too. Please know that our Knights want to serve everyone and to make everyone happy by doing this for us. Please come and support them this Friday and on Friday, April 1st. Congratulations to Jeff Logan who was elected as our new Grand Knight. I am looking forward to serving our parish with Jeff and enjoying his specialty in smoking meats. Happy pastor, happy parish, don’t you think? Blessed are those who live happily, for they will sleep well like a baby every night. I love you all, Fr. Hien Chaplain: Our parishioner, Vanessa Banh, a former chaplain for Via Christi, would like to volunteer her time for spiritual and emotional support. Blessings from our Lord be with you all. God is good and we are blessed to have each other. Since I have been at All Saints, I have seen the many blessings to our church and school through the many good hands and hearts of our parishioners, visitors, and employees. This really makes me joyful and happy for our parish and I know that it does the same to you. Last fall, an anonymous family wanted to help All Saints, by replacing the current old, unreliable, original heating and air system of our church. We have had many problems with this antique system. There were many times we had no heating or air conditioning during Masses, not to mention the super loud bangs it makes when the blowers are out of balance. You also have heard me say in church, “I wish that we had a new heating and air system for our church.” Guest what, my wish is becoming a reality, thanks to this anonymous family who heard my prayer in church and responded generously for the love of God and us all, especially for the students of All Saints. Our students come to church every day to pray as a class, to practice cantoring and readings for Mass, and of course to attend Holy Mass. I always enjoy celebrating Holy Mass with them and seeing them in church praying. I love our faith-filled students and teachers. This project to replace the heating and air conditioning system will begin Monday, March 7. Please join me in praying for favorable weather for the next few weeks. Most likely we will not have heat in church during this time, so please dress appropriately so you will not be so cold if the weather is freezing cold outside (I hope it isn't). All weekend Masses will be held in church, hot or cold, daily Masses will be held in the chapel; of course, we have heat in the chapel. Please enter the chapel from the chapel door only. Do not come to the main entrance/foyer area as the workers will need this space. We are hoping for warm weather, a smooth demolition and installation with no obstacles. Thank you for understanding, and please be patient during this time. I will surely keep you posted. Finally, Fridays during Lent, please abstain from all red meat. During Lent, please do your prayers, fasting and almsgiving for the love of God and for your salvation. 40 days of Lent can help you be faithful disciples of Jesus and that “good and faithful” steward of God. I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Society of St. Vincent de Paul: Recently, the Society of the neighboring parishes requested a visit with me and asked for an opportunity to give a short talk after this weekend’s Masses, February 26-27. Their hope is to have more helpers/volunteers involved in their ministry. If you are called to this special ministry, please don’t be afraid to join them. Unfortunately, there are people in need of financial help, including paying their bills. Thankfully we don’t have any parishioners asking for financial help from the parish. Maybe they know that we too have many large bills to pay, such as over $9k for last month's gas bill, and over $15K for February 2021. I hope it will not be as bad this month. Please keep up the good work by being smart with your time, talent and treasure, to always take care of what you have, to save when you can, to live a simple lifestyle, to not get addicted to gambling, drugs, etc., to avoid high maintenance and costly stuff that you can’t afford, and to always give thanks to God for your life, your loved ones, and all that you have. Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, March 2nd with Masses at 8am and 12noon in English. Our All Saints Catholic school children will attend the 8am Mass and do all the liturgical ministries. Ash Wednesday--fasting: Can only eat 1 full meal and 2 lesser meals. Abstinence: abstain from all red meats. During Lent, please do your prayers, fasting and almsgiving for the love of God and for your salvation. 40 days of Lent can help you to be faithful disciples of Jesus and be that “good and faithful” steward of God. There is a Vietnamese Mass at 6:30pm if you can’t attend the other Masses. God bless, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners of All Saints,
Blessings from our Lord through the intercession of all saints be with you all. Please know that we are all well-loved by God, the holy angels, and all the saints every day. Let everyone of us know and feel the love of God within us, so that we may live to love God with our prayers of thanksgiving and to live in peace with ourselves and others with joy and happiness every day. As Catholics, you are obligated to attend Holy Mass to fulfill your Sunday obligation before God. Worshiping God is required of us if we want to have eternal life with God. God made us to worship Him and to put Him first. Nowadays many people fail to keep the Lord’s Day holy and of course fail to worship God on Sunday. Please know that I am always happy to see you in church and I am certain that God is too. Trees—have you noticed that two trees in front of the rectory building are gone? Unfortunately, these two trees had to be cut down because they were causing problems. One tree was planted above the water line from the Fischer Center to the rectory. It also blocked the sun light to the office’s parking lot; therefore, it’s extremely dangerous in the winter for those who park there coming to church or trying to come into the church’s office because the sun could not melt the ice. The other tree was planted above the sewage line. We had to clean this sewage line twice in the last 8 months because of tree roots. Trees can be beautiful and nice to have, especially for a nice landscape, but it can also be a big problem, a costly problem too, if we don’t deal with them or plant them in the wrong place. There is another tree that must be cut down as well because it’s about 3 feet away from the school building, and a few feet from the main water line to all our facilities--church, school, rectory, etc. No doubt, it has already buckled up the sidewalk. A special thanks to those who help me take care of our church and school, day after day, week after week, and year after year. Your ministries to our parish are appreciated. Thanks, from the people of God, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners of All Saints,
Can you believe that we are in the middle of February already? This month is the shortest month of the year with only 28 days. However, there’s something special about this month. I am not talking about the coldest, snowiest, and iciest weather, I am speaking about true love. God’s blessings upon you all, especially this weekend as we celebrate Valentine’s weekend. Spouses, may your love for each other become stronger and more beautiful and meaningful than ever before. Please know that God joined you together in the sacrament of Matrimony for a reason, for a special of vocation of life, love, joy, and happiness on earth. With your love for each other, you are a family of love with each other and with your child/children. You are to help each other know God’s love for them and for you. You are to help each other to know God, to love God and to serve God. You are to help each other become saints in heaven with your love for God and for them. Sadly, we were all born sinners; we all have failed many times in words and in our deeds before God and one another. However, for as long as we live, God’s grace is always there to help us overcome our weakness and even to be forgiven of our sins. It’s so important that each day we live with God and for one another; that’s the best way to be loved and to be forgiven and to be a saint in heaven. Please, never give up loving one another, especially your spouse and family members. Also, please don’t live to change them either, because you will fail. I guarantee you. It’s impossible. I live to be thankful for each day and each person God has sent my way. Please love your spouse and family members for they are your greatest treasures on earth. Happy Valentine's Day, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Are you ready for God’s blessings through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr? Yes, this Thursday, February 3rd is his feast day. He is known for the healing of throats with diseases. So, if you are interested, please attend this special Mass on Thursday at 8am or one of the Masses this weekend. We will pray over you with a blessed candle through the intercession of St. Blaise immediately after the final blessing, during the exit song. After the blessing, you are welcome to depart. Please stay healthy and never give up loving and praying for one another, especially for those who are sick mentally, physically, and spiritually. Thank you to the many people who attended our Vietnamese New Year Mass on Tuesday. It was a beautiful celebration with much Vietnamese culture such as dragon dances, lucky money in the red envelopes, traditional Vietnamese New Year food and music, etc... I was so happy to see many parishioners of other nationalities at Mass and the reception dinner. Thank you everyone, especially to those who donated toward the fixing of our church’s roof. This tells me that we love our All Saints church and family dearly. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and God loves us all. Thank you and I love you all, Fr. Hien |
