Hello Everyone,
How was your Labor Day weekend? Did you enjoy your family and friends? Please remember that each day of our lives is a gift from God. We are all called to be thankful to God for one another, especially this weekend as we celebrate grandparents' weekend. We all know that without our grandparents, our moms and dads, none of us would be here. It was God who chose to give us our families, and one another, so that we may love them as God loves us. One thing that gets in the way of loving and showing our respect to our elders, especially to our grandparents, is that we tend to think that we know more than they do and that they need to listen to us. That's just wrong. God never made them to listen to us but rather, we are to listen to one another, and in most cases, we are to listen to their advice and wisdom. It's God's fourth commandment that we are to honor and respect our parents, especially our grandparents this weekend. As we are gathering in church this weekend to worship God, may we all pray especially for our families, especially for our parents and grandparents, whether they are alive or deceased. If you parents or grandparents are still alive, please stay connected with them and let them know you love them. Of course, everyone of us has different ways of showing our love for others. Some people love to give gifts such as flowers and money, others love to do things such as cook for them, many others love to stay around and visit with them, etc.... Please know that if you have good intentions to show your love and respect to your elders, they will know, and they will repay you more than you can ever give it back to them, To be a family, we must love one another unconditionally, especially through the gift of life--birth and salvation by passing on our Catholic faith to everyone in our family. Lastly, I would like to remind everyone of our church's family mission that has been in our parish forever: All Saints is a diverse Roman Catholic community, centered in the Eucharist, guided by the Holy Spirit, nurturing one another through friendship, prayer, education, service, and stewardship, on the journey with Christ to the Father. Let us be good parishioners of All Saints by becoming one with Jesus and helping others come to Jesus for love, life, and salvation. Fr. Hien Happy Labor Day Everyone,
God bless America and all those who live in it, including the new Afghanistan refugees, those who rely on America for life, freedom, peace, food, and shelter, etc.... Happy Labor Day weekend to everyone. Let us give thanks to God for all the work of our human hands that have been the life-giving source to us, our families, communities, country, and the whole world. America is a God-blessed nation because of all the good we have done for one another locally and worldwide. May we continue to grow in our faith in God, and "In God We Trust," so that everyone, born and yet-to-be-born, will be proud Americians. America is our beautiful homeland for she has so much to offer everyone. God's continuous blessings upon our country and all those who live in it. Sadly, Covid has not been slowing down here in America nor in all places of the world. I have been staying connected with my relatives in Vietnam. Sad to learn that Covid is horrible over there. Many people have been sick with it and the entire country has shut down. People are not allowed to go out in the street unless they have a permit to go out to buy food. In some areas, food can only be brought to their homes. How blessed we are living in America; even during the worst time, all we have to do is wear a mask and we can go almost anywhere we would like. We have never been locked down. Let us be thankful to the Lord and to all those who are sacrificing their lives to save lives and to make our country a better place for everyone. Today, let us be grateful for the many blessings that our country is giving us; even if we were to get sick from Covid, more likely we would not die from it because we have the world's best technologies, doctors, health care systems, etc.... Don't live in fear but live for God alone! I would like to remind everyone of our parish's mission that has been in our parish forever: All Saints is a diverse Roman Catholic community, centered in the Eucharist, guided by the Holy Spirit, nurturing one another through friendship, prayer, education, service, and stewardship, on the journey with Christ to the Father. Let us be good parishioners of All Saints by becoming one with Jesus and helping others come to Jesus for love, live, and salvation. Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
How are you doing? Please know that we are blessed to be alive and to be healthy. Let us pray for all those who are sick, especially those with deadly diseases and viruses. No one likes to be sick or be treated as a sick person. Let us love all people, including the sick, the infirm, and the unborn. This week, every registered family will receive their up-to-date financial statement from January 1st to August 15th, 2021, in the mail. Thank you for your contribution to our church and school. Those who give faithfully, yes, you are the bread provider to our church and school with your time, talent, and treasure. Yes, our students are in debt to you for you and providing them with their Catholic education. None of them can pay for the costs of their education and formation. Please know that we all have the responsibility to care for and to take care of what we have, especially providing the Catholic education to our children and grandchildren. God calls all of us to be loving community so that we may do good to one another. God bless us all. In your letter, you will also receive the church and school's financial reports along with details on the buildings' rental fees. Please read them and share with your family members so that they too may know that it does cost to have our church, school, and many facilities. Again, only registered parishioners get the special rates--the discounted rate without providing insurance for their event, unless it's for a business event. They also get to use the facilities first, then non-registered Catholics and non-profit organizations second, then lastly the businesses. To be a good parishioner/Catholic, a person must register at a parish and contribute of their time, talent, and treasure. God Bless you all and I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Blessings from our Lord and our Mother Mary be with you all. Last weekend, we celebrated the Assumption of our Mother Mary to heaven. We also celebrated with a procession and a Holy Mass in Vietnamese with over a thousand people. You are invited to take home with you a small 4 x 6 holy card of our Lady of La Vang to have her at your home. They are available in the foyer by the bulletins. Take what you need and share some with your loved ones for we all can use a hand from Mother Mary. The prayer is in Vietnamese. I have not found the translation of the prayer in English yet. A special thanks to all those who came and to all those who helped us celebrate this special event with their time, talent and treasure. Everyone was well fed with great food., We handed out about 1,300 to-go boxes. Bishop also mentioned that he called and thanked his mom for his life on his birthday. May we all thank our parents for their love and support to all of us. Please join me in welcoming the new students and staff to our Catholic school. Yes, school has already started, and they are attending daily Mass too. We are blessed with many new students this year. Let us pray for a safe and successful academic school year for our students and teachers, volunteers, and parish staff too, etc.... Catholic education will transform everyone into the person of Jesus Christ, to have faith in God and to love one another. God bless you all and I love you all, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners of All Saints,
Blessings from Our Lord and Mother Mary be with you all. August is here and we are ready to start a new school year for our children, As you know, children are innocent and precious. They love to learn and to feel good about themselves, especially their accomplishments. Every one of us has the responsibility to help them be the best person they can be and to learn the Catholic faith and live it daily. Let us love them by giving them the gift of God and the best education we can to form them intellectually and spiritually. So, parents, please register your child/children to attend our Catholic school if you haven't done so yet. Enrollment is going on now in the school office. Every parent has two options to enroll their child/children for Catholic education . Option one is to pay tuition of $4,900 per child to All Saints, $6,850 per student for Kapaun High School. Option two is to register as members of All Saints with your time, talent and treasure. You are required to tithe on your family income to our parish. You must help All Saints pay the bills to educate your child/children, including the bills from Kapaun High School for the students from All Saints. It would be wrong to take advantage of God's church and His people. I can't wait to be with your child/children again and to see you all at Holy Mass. Next Sunday, August 15th, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Everyone is invited to join our Bishop Kemme, many priests and the Vietnamese Catholics for a special outdoor procession of the statue of our Lady of La Vang, the Blessed Virgin Mary, around our church. If you have never been to a procession like this before, you will be very happy that you came. You will see the love and devotion many people have for Mother Mary. More likely there will be standing room only because we are expecting about thousand people at the procession and the Holy Mass. Of course, lunch will be served to everyone in the halls and in the tents outside. In the foyer, you can enjoy the shrine of our Lady of La Vang. We made it from the wood around our church. It's a stunning image of Our Lady standing on a nicely carved and decorated tree. Why the tree? It's because that was where Mary appeared in 1798 to the Vietnamese. The tree is shaped like the letter S to look like the shape of Vietnam. All Costs for this special event are being provided by generous donors. Many people are very generous to us because they love Mother Mary and their Catholic faith so much. Thanks to all and I hope everyone can join us, Catholics or not, all can come to Jesus and join us in honoring His Mother, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners of All Saints,
Blessings from our Lord Jesus be with you all. The month of August is here, may each one of us enjoy each day of our lives with our loved ones, especially in these last weeks before the new school year. Let us love one another and always long to be one with Jesus through our prayers and worship at Holy Mass. Only at Holy Communion during the Holy Mass can we become one with Jesus in His holy body, soul, and divinity. He says, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” Don’t forget that our souls always thirst for Jesus alone. Yes, only Jesus can feed us with the true bread from heaven. When we truly love Jesus, He will raise us to eternal life in heaven. Please join me with our love, prayers, and sympathy for the family of Binh Tran. Binh was a faithful parishioner who attended our Sunday Masses faithfully with his family. He went to bed Sunday night and died in his sleep. We celebrated his funeral Mass at All Saints on Friday, July 23rd. I was very sad at his funeral Mass. I knew Binh well because he helped our church and school with his electrical skills. At his funeral, his boss and his wife from McPherson also came. Of course, I recognized them right away because they were my faithful and generous parishioners at St. Joseph’s, McPherson. They also fed me many times at their homes, and I hunted on their private land. They told me that Binh was working on St. Joseph’s Church last before he passed away. Binh was truly a good man. All Saints Catholic church and school needs more parishioners with their skills to help take care of what we have. So, if you are gifted in electrical, plumbing, heating and air, handyman work, or even mowing, etc.… and want to volunteer for our church, please let us know. Do you have an extra microwave/large fan that you don’t need? We can use them here, just bring them to the church office. Thanks, Fr. Hien PS. Parents, please register your child/children to attend our Catholic school if you haven’t done so. My Dear Parishioners of All Saints,
Blessings from our Lord be with you all. May each and everyone of us continue growing in our Catholic faith; that is, to become one with Jesus in our hearts, minds and souls. Please know that God made us so that we all may choose God and freely love Him and worship Him like Mother Mary does. Yes, we are all blessed to be Catholic because we have the Holy Eucharist with us and the Blessed Mother to pray for us all until we are in heaven with Our Lord for eternal life. All Saints Catholic Church and School are blessed with may wonderful and faithful parishioners for generations. Many of them have been here for years, faithful in their prayers and worship at Holy Masses. Many have given much of their time, talent and treasure to our church and school. Many parishioners have served the parish on councils and in parish organizations. Recently I had dinner with our parish council and finance committee members to thank them for the many years of service to our church. I shared with them that our parish needs to take the next step in allowing new parishioners to be members on the parish council and finance committees. I asked them to recommend replacements. My plan is to have four members on our finance committee and about eight on the parish council, plus myself. Our new parish council members will consist of group leaders of the parish such as the grand knight of Knights of Columbus, altar society president, a representative from All Saints Catholic School, and DRE, a representative for liturgy, nationalities, etc... Please pray for the new members of our parish council and the finance committee to help me in serving our parish. God bless you all and please enjoy the last few weeks of summer. Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
How are you doing and how is your summer? I'm doing great and my summer has been going well. As you can tell, I love gardening and spending my time outside. It helps me to be happy and to continually think and plan for the well-being of our church and school. I am pretty much a thinker and a planner. I don't like to do things at the last minute nor do I want to be a failure in anything I do. I have been blessed to always have the confidence in what I do. Please know that every day is a gift from God, and you too can live joyfully and happily every day. Be positive and think all day long but be sure to rest at night. A good night's sleep is extremely essential to our well-being mentally, physically, socially , and spiritually. Of course, food is super important too. That is why I love to eat. So, if you are cooking, call me up. Parents, please know that your child/children need Catholic education. The best gift you can give your child/children is the gift of God, all the time. Of course, God is with them, but they must learn to love God and to trust in God. The Catholic faith you gave them when they were a baby must continue growing through your practicing of your Catholic faith and through our Catholic education system, Since last year, I have been celebrating our daily Masses in the morning so that our school children can attend Mass all those days or at least twice a week. I believe that Jesus is everything for them now and forever,. Let us love our children and put them in good and holy hands of Jesus. We all know that only God can give us everything for free, that is without any payment to God today in exchange for our love of Him and one another. Everything in this life costs, including Catholic education., To have Catholic education, we must pay all the bills that come with it such as trash service--a must have service for students' classrooms and lunchroom; internet service--a must have service for advanced education; salaries for our professional teachers so that they can feed their families, etc... At the end of the day, it costs about $5,000 to education one child at All Saints and about $6,800 in high school. Yes, monthly we have more utility bills that you in your household, plus we must pay $3,700 directly to KMC for your child's education. For this reason, school parents must sign a parish agreement form, promising to support All Saints with their time and talent, plus eight to ten percent of their household income is the suggested amount to All Saints. Or a parent can pay (tuition) for the costs of the education of their child at All Saints/KMC. Let us be good an faithful parishioners, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Blessings from our Lord be with you all. Did you have a wonderful and enjoyable 4th of July celebration? I was blessed to have my uncle’s family from Alabama who came and celebrated the 4th with my family and me. Yes, he and his family got to visit our church, my garden and living space as well. They were surprised that I have a big garden and lots of pets—fish, quail, and pheasant. May you and I never forget how blessed we are to have each other now and forever in heaven. Are you ready for Adoration? We will reopen our adoration chapel on Tuesday, July 20th. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for one hour, especially as a couple or together as a family. Yes, when you are together for adoration, you can read the Bible together, sing a song together or recite prayers together as a family, etc.… Don’t be afraid to share with Jesus your blessings and burdens so that He can help you. You can sign up for your adoration hour, anytime of any day from 9am to 9pm. If you must have a special hour outside of that time such as midnight, etc.… you are welcome as well. Just be sure to genuflect to Jesus or bow to Him, then remove the cover of the monstrance. After you are done, please cover the monstrance with the provided cloth and turn off all the ceiling lights, make sure all the doors are closed, etc... Finally, you are welcome to buy a framed picture of the Blessed Mother that will be blessed by our bishop on August 15th. You can see this special picture in our gathering area. It costs $40 for the frame and the picture printed. Everyone is encouraged to join our Vietnamese parishioners and community on Sunday, August 15th at 10:30am with Bishop Kemme, for a procession of the Blessed Mother, followed by the blessing of Mary’s shrine and statue in church, then Holy Mass with guest priests, and a free luncheon in the Fischer Center. Annually, the Vietnamese Catholics with thousands of people would gather in Carthage, MO to honor our Blessed Mother. Due to Covid, they are not having it this year, the same as last year. For this reason, we are holding one at All Saints for our parishioners and those in our community to give honor to Mary and glory to God at Holy Mass. Our mission at All Saints is to help all of God’s children to know God, to love God, and to serve God like Mother Mary. Love you all, Fr. Hien Dear fellow Wichita Catholic,
There is no easy way to say this, so I’ll get right to the point. The cultural battle over what Pope Francis calls the “evil of gender ideology” is now being forced upon the citizens people of Wichita. It is taking the form of a proposed city ordinance and your help is needed to help stop it. Let me begin by stating the obvious: We are all sinners in need of mercy. The Catholic Church invites everyone to a personal encounter with Christ. Catholic Church Teaching includes the genuine Truth about the human person--man and woman--made in the image and likeness of God. Questions surrounding the many and varied topics connected to “sexual orientation” are complex and often confusing for some. True Catholics do not “hate” certain people or unjustly discriminate. To contend otherwise is simply not true. At the same time, we will not be intimidated or bullied by individuals or special interest groups seeking to impose a false ideology and anthropology about the human person. We will not be forced to take part activity that in contrary to our Faith and a properly formed conscience. Now, here is the Wichita story. The Mayor of Wichita and certain members of the City Council are pressing forward with what they are calling a “non-discrimination ordinance,” or NDO. That sounds harmless enough, but it is not. Simply put, if passed and enforced, this NDO will be used to specifically target people of faith like you and me. In fact, this NDO may well force Catholics and others to either violate our deeply held religious beliefs or face civil penalties, including fines of up to $2,000. There is even a provision calling for “educational requirements” for convicted violators. Sexual orientation and gender identity ordinances like this NDO are being systematically introduced and passed throughout the country and in Kansas. They carve out special protections to people based on their self-defined “sexual orientation.” Under conditions of the proposed ordinance, Catholic organizations in Wichita could be compelled take action contrary to their deeply held religious beliefs. Likewise, individual Catholic business owners could face fines unless they cooperate in activity that violates their deeply held religious beliefs. We’ve seen this happen with bakers, florists and others around the country. In fact, under the language of the proposed NDO, the Catholic Church in Wichita would have less rights in employment than it does under federal law. In summary, the proposed Wichita NDO being considered by the City Council this coming Tuesday is not only unnecessary, it is a legal bludgeon being used to target Catholics and other people of faith. The proposed ordinance appears to have the votes to pass, but there is still time for your voice to be heard. Please let your city council member and the Mayor know how you feel. Respectfully but clearly insist that they NOT pass this NDO. Their contact information is below. Thank you, and God bless you. St. Joseph, Head of the Holy Family, pray for us!
