My Dear Parishioners,
I pray that everyone is doing well, and all are blessed. All Saints is a very blessed church family. We always have good hearted people looking after our church family. Recently, we were blessed with a special commitment from DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary at 201 South Hydraulic, Wichita, KS 67211 to give 10 percent of the total bill from a funeral arrangement package to our church. It does not matter if the person is Catholic or not, parishioners or not, if the person/family mentions All Saints to them as a referral, All Saints will receive 10% from the funeral home. Wow! As you know, a normal funeral cost is over $10,000. 10% is a big amount to our parish and we can really use it. Please consider using DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary or tell people about this special offer. Feel free to contact Sheryl Pennington, the manager, 316.263.0244 or Cell 316.841.0879, DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary or visit devorssflanaganhunt.com for their services. You can also visit them and other businesses through our web site. My goal is to help our parishioners’ businesses and anyone who would like to support our church and school. We need their help financially in our mission of evangelization and education. God bless you all, Fr. Hello Everyone,
Happy Father’s Day to all dads. Blessings from Our Lord be with you all, especially to those who are under the weather. Sadly, one of our priests from Church of the Magdalen, Father Matt Davied, has Covid19 and he must be quarantined. We pray for healing for Father and all those who are sick. Let us be cautious with this virus for it is very contagious. It is best to stay home and avoid going out as much as possible. I am doing so for my sake and everyone else too. It is a sacrificial way of life to save lives. Happy Father’s Day to all dads this weekend. A special blessing will be given to those who will be at Holy Masses this weekend. Thank you for being our wonderful and loving dads. Please know that we love you and we need you in our lives. May you be like St. Joseph, always full of love for your family and for God. Diocesan Retreat: Beginning this Sunday, June 21st to Friday, I will be joining our priests of the diocese for our annual retreat at the Spiritual Life Center. There will be no daily Masses this week. I will be having daily Mass with our priests and bishop and you all will be in my prayers at Holy Mass and in my daily liturgy of the hours, too. Gospel in Vietnamese: Since Covid19, we have been printing the Sunday readings in the bulletin for everyone to read before or during Mass instead of using the hymnal. Beginning today, we will print the Vietnamese version of the Gospel to help the elderly Vietnamese parishioners who do not know English too well. Love you all, Fr. NEWLY ORDAINED PRIESTS CLASS OF 2020:
We give thanks to God and we welcome three newly ordained priests to the Diocese of Wichita: FR. TREVOR BUSTER, FR. HAYDEN CHARLES, AND FR. LUKE DOWNING. Please pray for our new priests and all priests throughout the world. CONGRATULATIONS! To the five seminarians Matt Glazier, Andrew Meng, Christopher Rumback, William Stuever and Ty Taylor who were ordained to the transitional diaconate Thursday, May 21, 2020. God’s willing, these men will be ordained priests this time next year for our diocese. Thank you Jesus. EVANGELIZATION: Evangelization is an encounter with the living God. In fact, it is through the Divine encounter that we become fully alive. “The ultimate goal is not health or wellness, but the encounter with Jesus … He alone frees us from evil and heals our hearts. Only an encounter with him can save, can make life full and beautiful” (Pope Francis, Homily on the Occasion of the Canonization of St. John Henry Newman, 13 October 2019). Questions to assist your encounter with the Lord: God has offered you His greatest gift -- His only son. Every gift is an encounter with a person’s love that is meant to be received. Jesus is the gift of the Heavenly Father. How do you see Jesus as a gift in your life and how do you receive Him in your soul? The Holy Spirit is the love shared between the Father and the Son. Jesus offers you the gift of the Holy Spirit when he offers eternal life--that is divine life without duration. How have you experienced the divine life of the Holy Spirit? STEWARDSHIP: Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God’s gifts and shares these gifts in love of God and neighbor. THANK YOU, MY PARISHIONERS, FOR YOUR FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP TO OUR CHURCH AND SCHOOL. GOD BLESS YOU ALL, FR.HIEN My Dear Parishioners,
Are you happy? Happy Pentecost! After Jesus rose from the dead, He revealed Himself to His disciples and said to them, “Peace be with you.” He said “Peace” to them again and again until their hearts and minds were believers in God. Please know that if you really want to believe in God, receive God’s peace and live peacefully every day. God’s peace is always available for all of us in every moment. Please receive the gift of peace from God through blessings of the Holy Spirit. We all have received the Holy Spirit into our bodies, minds, and souls, especially on the day of our baptisms and confirmations. After this weekend of Pentecost, our liturgy will be the thirteenth week of the Ordinary Time. Now that school is out, we are entering the summer months. Please have a great summer and always enjoy your time with your children and grandchildren. Please enjoy them the way God made them for there are no two people the same. They are precious and sacred to God and to us all. Let us love one another as God loves us and live peacefully with them. The weather in Kansas has been wet which is good for farmers and gardeners but not for a lot of people. Please do not let the weather or the many unfortunate situations in this imperfect life take the best of you. Rather, live peacefully, joyfully, and happily. In this way you can avoid a lot of stress, depression, and sadness. Live well each day with God and with each other. This is my goal every day, to be with God and to be with others. For this reason, I always love to see people at Holy Masses. I love to celebrate Holy Masses with everyone. Of course, I love to send everyone home with God’s peace and love for themselves, their families and every person they encounter in their lives. I am happy to be a priest and I am blessed to a priest for 20 years on May 27th. My family came to celebrate my anniversary with me. I thank my parents for the gift of my life and the encouragement they gave me to enter the seminary when I was in high school. I would not have chosen this path if it had not been for them showing me the way. God should be the way for everyone in every vocation: religious, marriage, single, etc.…and sometimes we should listen to our parents for sometimes they know more than we do. Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
Prayers and blessings from our Lord be with you all. Please join me in expressing our sympathy to the families of Michael Sowell, husband of Peggie, and Robert Gammon, spouse of Karen. These two gentlemen recently passed to eternal life. Let us pray for the repose of their souls and the blessings of God to their families during this difficult time of loss and sadness. May God ease their pains and bless them with the trust that they will see their loved ones again in God’s kingdom. Jesus, we entrust Michael and Robert to your divine mercy. It has been very quiet at All Saints in church and in school due to the pandemic. Please know that we do have daily Mass, Tuesday to Friday at 8am; weekend Masses are Saturday, 12noon and 8pm, and Sunday 8am in English. Sunday 8pm Mass is in Vietnamese. This is a temporary schedule due to the pandemic. We are slowly having more people come back to our weekend Masses. Let us pray that everyone will be safe and that we always live with Jesus in us. All Saints Catholic School: Congratulations to all our children for you have persevered and successfully advanced to the next grade and level of education, especially our eight graders to the high school level. We thank God for each and everyone of you and may God keep you safe through this summer. May you continue learning throughout this summer, especially from your parents and siblings. On behalf of our school parents and parishioners, THANK YOU to our All Saints’ teachers, volunteers and parish staff for your service and ministry to our church and school. We are blessed to have you and your stewardship. We love you all. We also give thanks to God for the men ordained to the deaconate and priesthood this week for our diocese. May they imitate Jesus our Lord, Savior and Redeemer, throughout their religious life to preach the good news and to bring God’s love to all people. For almost 30 years, this was the first time that I was not able to attend an ordination, due to the pandemic. Space was limited at the ordination Masses; therefore, I gave up my place so that the candidates can be with their immediate families who have been supporting them, loving them, and praying for them. Congratulations Brothers! Thank you, Jesus, for all those who love you and are willing to be you to others, Fr. Hien PS. I’m blessed to be a priest for 20 years on May 27th with my brothers, Fathers Joe Eckberg, Eric Weldon, and Joseph Tatro. My Dear Parishioners,
How are you doing during this pandemic crisis? Please do not let fear get the best of you. Always trust in our Lord Jesus. He is always with you and He can do all things for you. He loves you unconditionally in your good times and in bad, in your sickness and in health, etc.… You have nothing to lose for you have Jesus within you, all the time. Please join me in extending our prayers for the repose of the soul of Magdalena Sauerwein who recently passed to eternal life. We prayed for her in our church at her funeral Mass and at our last weekend masses too. We thank God for her and her family who were a big part of our parish. May she rest in peace eternally with our risen Lord Jesus. Our sympathy to her big family and many friends. It was so good to see many people at Holy Masses this past week. Again, attending Holy Mass is not obligated during this dangerous time. However, we are always to love God with all our hearts, minds and souls. We are to live joyfully, happily and saintly every day. When you come to Holy Mass, please feel free to sit yourself in the unblocked pews. You can sit as a family and come up together as a family to receive Holy Communion in one line. However, you are to be 6 feet away from those who are not in your household for social distancing. Holy Communion lines are about 6 feet apart around the altar area with signs that say “Holy Communion Here” next to a basket. You are welcome to place your donations in the baskets. Don’t forget to put your hands out to receive Holy Communion. We do have hand sanitizer by the doors, feel free to use some or bring your own to be used in church. You are also welcome to sanitize your seating area if you wish. You need to bring your own wipes. Please keep all chemicals out of children's reach. We will do our best to sanitize but there is no way that we can sanitize every spot of every handrail, kneeler, pew, door, etc.…after every person. Also, self-service for our church’s bulletins and free face masks are available in the foyer. I personally want to send my blessings to all mothers, especially those who did not make it to our Holy Masses last weekend. Please know that we are blessed to have you in our lives. We know that God loves us because of your precious gift of life to us all. Please continue loving us today as the day we were born. Thank you for your true love, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners & Happy Easter Everyone,
Blessings from our risen Lord Jesus be with you all. Often, we forget that every Sunday is the celebration of Easter, Jesus’ day of resurrection. Why? It’s because the resurrection of Jesus is His promise to all of us that we will be like Him, we will all rise from the dead just like He did if today we live to love God, to serve God and to worship God. Jesus did, and we must also, to rise from our deaths. God is so perfect that He will never abandon us, living or deceased. He will always be with us, loving us even when we are sinners or have died because of sins. For this reason, I am writing to you all, to remind you of God’s eternal and perfect love for you, your families, friends and the whole world during this pandemic time of sickness and death. God is with us and He will overcome all evil just like He did for Jesus. God has conquered sin and death and destroyed them. Jesus’ resurrection is God’s proof to all mankind. Now is the time for all of us to believe in Jesus, the one who suffered, died and rose from the dead for all of us. We must TRUST IN JESUS so that we may receive the graces of His suffering, death and resurrection for us. May we all enjoy the grace and blessings of Easter so that we all will rise to the eternal life of heaven with God, to be with our Mother Mary, all the angels and saints. Personally, I know for myself and for you that we are in the same boat. We have been in great distress and sorrow due to the virus attack. We have not been able to be with each other nor to be with our Lord in the holy sacraments. Please know that God and our loved ones are most important to us in this life and no evil can separate us from God or from each other. This is the time that we must be smart in order to be safe and to be healthy but above all, to be united in faith and in love toward those who are sick. May we all persevere one day at a time and continue living our days to the fullness while bearing great spiritual fruits before God. I am thankful to God for my life, my vocation and living in America. I am happily living out my days and doing all that I can each day physically and spiritually for our church and our parishioners. I love you all and wish you a Happy Easter with many blessings. I hope to see you soon after the covid-19 storm passes by. PS. Please don’t worry about me, I am The Man In Black and The Man Upstairs is taking good care of me. Please take care of yourself and your loved ones, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners of All Saints Catholic Church and School,
Blessings from our Lord and the Blessed Mother be with you all during this difficult and scary time of our lives due to the coronavirus. Let us hope and pray that soon we will return to our normal way of life. Please don’t lose hope nor your faith in God. God will never abandon us. Let us always trust in God and take good care of ourselves, our loved ones and all of humanity by not spreading the virus. I am very sad about not having our church and chapel open, especially for Holy Masses. Holy Mass is the heartbeat of our Catholic faith. For this reason, I celebrate my private Masses in our church to pray for you, your family and the whole world. I choose our church because it’s God’s house and it has been our spiritual home for generations. Nothing can keep me from keeping our church as God’s dwelling place where I offer prayers and sacrifices for you and for the salvation of all. All Saint’s Church is our spiritual home with our love, faith and trust in God. Please know that at every Mass, you are in my heart. My eyes will see empty pews, but my heart will see your love and your faith in God; together we will worship God and love one another. Thank you for your financial contributions to our church and school. Attached is your up-to-date contribution for this year. Thank you! As you know, our main source of income to pay our bills is from the church collection. Since there has been no Mass, there is no collection, and we are in dire need of money to pay our bills. Yes, even now with no collection, we are still obligated to pay all teachers and employees, their health insurance, etc.… Please join me in thanking God for some of our non-contracted staff who have volunteered to work less hours for they understand that we don’t have money to pay them and all the bills. Here are some suggestions for you that would help: --Please consider donating one percent or more of your unused money—from savings, CD, etc.… Make your check payable to: All Saints Catholic School to help pay our teachers and make the payments to Kapaun and Bishop Carrol high schools. Any amount will be very helpful for it cost the parish over $4,000 to educate one child per year. Our mission is to educate and to form our children into great intellectuals and spiritual disciples of Christ. They are the future of our church, families and countries. --Tithing: please consider using direct deposit method now to reduce costs by completing the form CLICK HERE and returning it to us. It’s safe and free to you and costs very little to the church. A special thanks to those who have been using this method. --Send in your donations: If direct deposit is not possible, please mail in your collection envelopes or drop them in the office drop box. This method is inconvenient for you--write checks, costs of stamps and mail envelopes; inconvenient to our church—cost to buy the collection envelops and mail them to you, need a group of 5-6 people to count the money, and of course the danger of getting infected from the envelopes and money. As of today, our teachers and staff are back to work, some are learning how to teach online and others are serving food to any child under 18 to help families out during this virus threat. Our staff has also sanitized our church and school buildings. Please know that you are always welcome to be in our church and chapel for personal prayers and devotions. This is your church and chapel; you have the right to use it. If you don’t know the door’s combination yet, please contact the church office. On Sundays, there are so many online Masses on TV, such as EWTN, and a live-streamed Mass by Bishop Kemme at the Cathedral at 10am, https://catholicdioceseofwichita.org/covid-19/ To read daily scriptures and Sunday readings, please visit USCCB.ORG. Here is a spiritual communion prayer that you can use: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Finally, please don’t forget to stay home as much as possible to avoid infections from people or places, to wash your hands as often as is needed, and pray together at home especially for the sick. I Love you all; I miss being with you to see your smiles and to hear your greetings, Fr. Hien PS. Thank you to Linden Bates, a longtime parishioner who took care of our lawn for over 25 years. One day, he said to me, “Father, I am getting too old to mow.” I am so thankful that he gave so much of his time, talent and treasure to our parish. God bless you Linden and we appreciate your commitment to yours and our parish. To save money, I am looking for used mowers—bigger is better because we have so much acreage, and volunteers to help mow our church & school lawn. Please let the office know if you can help/donate. My Dear Parishioners,
Are you ready for spring break? Our children will be on their spring break March 13-22. Please enjoy them at home or on vacation. Please be safe & always keep everyone safe & sound. Please remember to be a family with your time, talents & treasures for God and each other. Pray together at home during your vacation. Visit Masstimes.org to find a church near your traveling area. God is great and He always loves to be with us. With God all things are possible for you, your family and for the whole human race, living and deceased. Always trust in God—Jesus, I trust in you. Coronavirus--has been spreading like wildfire in many countries and it’s getting close to us. For this reason, our Bishop Kemme has taken a precaution step to omit the sign of peace during Mass. He made it clear that there should be no sign of peace, and no holding of hands during the Our Father prayer either. If you are sick, please stay home and rest but don’t forget to pray, especially reading the Bible or watching Mass on TV if you can. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding. Let us hope and pray that this coronavirus will pass by soon and that doctors will have a way to help many sick people with this new virus. We are thankful that we are still holding Masses for even Italy is canceling Masses and large gatherings until Palm Sunday, very sad…. Vietnamese Retreat has been held for many years, perhaps more than a decade; a group of our Vietnamese parishioners will hold their annual retreat with guest priests for everyone this weekend of March 13-15. Everyone will be remembered and prayed for during this retreat. Finally, at every Holy Mass, let us thank God for everyone in our church family, the born and the unborn, and the healthy and the sick of our church family, that Our Lord will always watch over us and bless us with His divine love and grace. Congratulations to 69 of our parish members who received their sacrament of Confirmation last Saturday from Bishop Kemme. It was such a special blessing to have so many people attend the Confirmation Mass in our own church. So many people attended, and it was so meaningful and beautiful. This is what a church family should look like; we gather to worship, to give thanks to God and to pray for one another, especially for our children on their Confirmation day. A special thanks to all those who made this beautiful Mass possible: our children who lectored, our altar servers, ushers and greeters, gifts bearers, the choir, etc.… God bless you all and I love you always, Fr. Hien My Dear Parishioners,
How are you doing? First, I would like to thank everyone for attending our Ash Wednesday Masses. You really revealed your love and faith in God. So many people attended our three Masses, especially the 6:30pm. It was like a Christmas Eve Mass. You made my day and you surely made our Lord so happy with you. You and I are here to love God, to worship God and to serve God. Did you know that since I have been here, we have been blessed with about a hundred new families, plus 57 new students in our All Saints Catholic school this year? It’s all because we and our children are putting God first in the Holy Mass—the Eucharist. We want to become one with Jesus and to imitate His eternal love for all people. We also want our children to continue learning and growing in our Catholic faith. May God bless you all and keep us all close to Him and to each other. Secondly, if you are reading this message before this weekend, please join me in celebrating the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation for over 70 of our children, this Saturday, March 7th at 4pm with our Bishop Carl Kemme. These candidates are God’s gift to us and our church’s family. We are so proud of them for they too are putting God first in their lives. They have been learning about the Holy Sacraments and living out their Catholic faith, especially at Holy Mass as lectors, ushers, greeters, gift bearers, etc.… May they continue growing in their Catholic faith to be fully alive as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.” We also thank our All Saints Catholic school children for helping with the Confirmation Mass as lectors, altar servers, gift bearers, etc.… Finally, please don’t forget to join us for Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent at 5pm in English and 5:30pm in Vietnamese. Fridays during Lent: No meat please. Come Holy Spirit come, fill the hearts of my parishioners with your heavenly love for you and for others, Fr. Hien |
